4 Questions to Ask Yourself: Where to Start When Creating a Healthy Home

Are you spinning in overwhelm, unsure of what part of your home to make healthier? You’re not alone.

It’s hard to know where to start or what to do next.

When you consider all that could be changed, the possibility can be overwhelming. Or, it could be exhilarating!

In this article, we’ll give you the four questions to ask yourself in order to transform your home into a healthy household in the shortest amount of time.

Why Transform Your Home into a Healthy Household?

In addition to fulfilling your burning desire (awesome in-and-of-itself), living in a healthy household can have multiple health benefits.

Studies show that when the air in our homes is cleaner, health conditions can be reduced or eliminated. Here are two examples of such studies:

“…health improvements are associated with pollution decreases, even below the international standard.” – American Thoracic Society, Health Benefits of Air Pollution Reduction

“Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is proven to have significant impacts on people’s comfort, health, and performance.” – Indoor Air-Quality Data-Monitoring System: Long-Term Monitoring Benefits

That’s also what my experience tells me – that there is a direct result between our indoor air quality (e.g. healthy-ness of our homes) and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Benefits of Living in Good Indoor Air Quality

Allll of the benefits are too long to list here, but below are a few of our favorites:

Give our bodies a brake.

“OMG, that feels soooo good” – that’s what I picture our bodies saying and feeling when we reduce inflammation and give our bodies a break and chance to recover.

More energy.

Some days you might feel like the sky is the limit. That’s what happened for me; my energy levels are heightened almost every day since crating a healthy home environment. It’s kinda addicting to feel all this good energy (weird, not weird at all).

Better memory.

As our bodies clear our memory clears up, too!

Focus on the important things.

It’s a beautiful moment when we start remembering the important things in life, moments of love and laughter that resurface.

Profound peace.

Knowing that you’re making healthy choices, strategically aligned with your needs and desires, can give you a sense of peace like no other.

What Areas of Your Home Could Be Transformed?

The phrase “creating a healthy home” is so broad that it’s helpful to have a better definition. In our eyes, a healthy home encompasses these main categories:

  • food
  • clothing
  • textiles
  • personal care products
  • cleaning (cleaners, tools)
  • furniture
  • household products (decorations, candles/fragrances, etc.)
  • building and remodeling materials

4 Questions to Ask Yourself: Where to Start

Write down the first answer that comes up for you; in other words, whatever your intuition, heart says or feels first.

When you envision transforming your home into an (even more) organic, chemical-free household, ask yourself……

  1. What are you excited about most?
  2. What feels like it’s the easiest to do?
  3. Which of these would bring you most joy?
  4. Where is your heart drawn to? Intuition drawn to?

Look over your answers. Are there any answers that are the same? For example, perhaps you are most excited (question #1) about sleeping on a healthy mattress AND your intuition (question #4) knows that mattress is an area to focus on.

Start there.

Or perhaps you love to shop for clothes and transforming your wardrobe would be the easiest to do (question #2) and bring you great joy (question #3).

Then, start there!
