Healthy Home Services: Assessment + Coaching

Now working in collaboration with Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine doctors – combining “doctoring” and “non-toxic home environment” for sustainable healing from illnesses!

Are you tired of having an ever-growing list of illnesses?

It’s possible to feel good all of the time by creating an organic, chemical-free home environment.

I discovered that over 140 health conditions are caused by chemicals in our everyday products!

This 2018 study from NOAA is one to read, “… lotions, paints and other products contribute about as much to air pollution as the transportation sector does.”

The chemicals used to make products that we use every single day, impact every single one of our lives – in different ways – from increased allergies, cancer, and obesity, to depression and more.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

For people with autoimmune disorders, inflammation, chronic illness, chemical sensitivity, bad allergies, and many other illnesses, transforming your home to a healthy home can be life changing.

Even those that don’t think they need this level of organic lifestyle, often find great benefits.

A healthy home environment, sometimes called “good indoor air quality,” is deeply tied to every other aspect of Whole Health – to good health.

In short, chemicals in our household products and building materials get into our bodies through breathing, eating and soaking into the skin. The products we use to construct (or remodel/update) our homes and products we buy (from food to clothing to furniture and decor) directly affects how our bodies operate – in all aspects.

While you don’t have the time to sort through confusing documents or language, you DO want the info – and be able to understand it clearly the first time around.

The amount of details might be overwhelming.  This is very common. There’s lots of new info to learn, in some cases quickly.

In addition, you don’t want to miss a key piece of information. Maybe you’re afraid you’ll choose “wrong” or toxic products without knowing it.

These are all very common aspirations and worries.

When we focus on the “good-better-best” options, and have a coach or partner to do it with, this whole process becomes much easier.

The bottom line is: You want to transform your household into a healthy home – one that’s organic + chemical-free. And you’re not alone in this.

Our healthy home assessment + coaching is for people that want:

  • info that’s authentic, real and based on credible resources
  • to be their full self and be able to talk openly about how they’re feeling and their experiences during the healthy home construction and transformation process
  • solutions that work for them specifically
  • extra support to help ensure they choose nontoxic products for building, remodeling, and your household
  • to talk through options because it helps them to become clearer on what option to choose
  • a confidence boost to stay strong and feel supported, so you follow through to the end
  • support when interacting with contractors and have an extra assurance that they’re doing what you’ve asked
  • becoming an educated home owner to make sure your building or remodeling project is healthy and non-toxic

The people I work with don’t want info that is falsely presented, covering up things, or just a marketing ploy. They don’t want to have to hide who they are or how they’re feeling during the process. They don’t want to waste time or money.

What Areas of Your Home Can We Help With?

SERVICES

Healthy Home Remodel Coaching: Homeowners

Homeowner is General Contracting or Doing Project (Without General Contractors)

Larger projects, such as building or remodeling a home, may require more time, depending on your project scope. Together, we determine how much coaching time you might need and want!

This coaching package is for people that want to be involved in the healthy home building process to ensure your contractors are (indeed) creating a healthy home for you. AND do-it-yourselfers. We address material selection and construction processes.

Meeting times can vary greatly depending on the scope of work (e.g., small updates vs. remodel vs. new construction). Consistent meetings are held via video conference or phone, based on your construction timeline.

Scenario Example: You’re updating your bathroom mostly yourself. You’re painting, installing a vanity and hanging accessories, but will be hiring out the tiling and plumbing work to a subcontractor.

Healthy Home Remodel Coaching 1:1 coaching with the client (you!). At times, having a discussion with the client, subcontractor(s), material supplier(s) and/or healthy home coach may occur. However, largely, the client has most of the communication with the subcontractors.

The healthy home coach provides you with good-better-best options for healthy building/remodeling materials. If you would like, the healthy home coach joins conversations with subcontractors and/or material suppliers to guide and support the client while choosing materials (and construction processes) that are healthier. We also review contracts, upon request, to make sure healthy materials and processes are included.

Here’s how our partnership and work together would flow:

Cost:

$ Cost given before coaching starts. The cost varies depending on the scope of your project. We will propose a healthy home coaching + consulting cost for your specific project.

Healthy Home Remodel Coaching: Contractors

With General Contractors + Subcontractors

Scenario Example: You’re remodeling your bathroom extensively and don’t have the time or knowledge to do so. You hire a general contractor to move walls, change the location of your shower and other parts of the project.

This coaching process is very similar to the one above. Typically, projects that have a General Contractor are larger in scope and require more interaction between the Healthy Home Coach, client, and building team (general contractor, architect, interior designer, material suppliers, sub-contractors).

Here’s how our work together and partnership would flow:

$ Cost given before coaching starts. The cost varies depending on the scope of your project. We will propose a healthy home coaching + consulting cost for your specific project.

Healthy Home Coaching: Overall Home

We work 1:1 with you to transform your household cleaners, furniture, decorations, cooking tools, textiles (bedding, drapes, etc.), and/or materials used in home remodel or updating.

Healthy Home Coaching includes:

  • Supporting you through the journey – and overwhelm that happens in nearly every home transformation project.
  • Give you simple solutions.
  • Give you a few places where you can find these products.

Example of Healthy Home Coaching

Goal: Julie wants to sleep soundly in a non-toxic bedroom and feel rested and full of energy in the morning. She wants to change out toxic items to non-toxic in order to improve the indoor air quality in her bedroom, which leads to better health.

Current Environment: Julie’s bedding, mattress, dresser and night stand were bought at conventional stores that used mostly synthetic materials and composite woods. While the dresser and night stand had a solid wood face frame, the rest (back, sides, drawer boxes) were plywood and MDF (composite woods). The furniture was finished with veneer or conventional paint.

Since her monthly budget allows her to change some things from toxic to non-toxic each month, she has chosen to buy non-toxic as she’s able.

Coaching Session 1: We run through a series of questions about the changes Julie would like to make. How much of your budget would you like to allocate per month (or year)? What feels most fun to change? What is in need of replacement sooner than later? And several other thoughtful questions.

For Julie, she didn’t have a line item in her budget per say, but she was very conscious of spending money wisely. It felt most fun to change her bedding and dresser. Her dresser was most in need of replacement since it was several years old. Her intuition told her that the dresser may be holding mold or other toxins.

Based on this, and other info, we chose to focus on her dresser first.

I gave Julie info about exactly what to look for in non-toxic furniture. Plus, a few companies that make or carry it. We also discussed good-better-best furniture, and solutions for how Julie could replace one piece of furniture at a time.

Julie’s Decision: Julie chose to replace her dresser with a completely non-toxic one (following our 4 criteria for healthy) and have it made by a non-toxic custom furniture builder. That way, she could have her night stands and headboard made to match, but purchase them in a few months from now.

Coaching Session 2: Next, we focused on sheets.

I taught Julie the #1 and #2 things to look for when shopping for sheets – the two simplest, strategic, and surest way to know her sheets didn’t have toxic chemicals in them. Plus, I gave her several places to buy them. This gave Julie the info she needed to pick her own sheet colors, design and thread count while finding something within her price range.

She got stuck along the way – overwhelm in deciding between good-better-best options. Julie and I jumped on the phone, talked through her overwhelm, and found the best solution for her.

That’s how coaching works… so on down the line, until her bedroom was fully transformed into a healthy, organic, chemical-free bedroom.

This entire coaching process allows you to create your best organic and chemical-free home in the most impactful way.

What Can You Do with Healthy Home Assessment Results?

For example, if one of your focus areas is to eliminate plastic in your clothing, you can apply your knowledge of eliminating plastic to the topic of clothing. And clean up your closet!
  • Take an online class. For those who want to expand their knowledge without putting in a ton of time to find credible research/info, AND want to work at their own pace, our online classes are a good option.
  • Hire a healthy home coach. For those that want to transform their home into a healthy household quickly and in partnership with a coach. A personalized transformation of your household into a heathy one.
